Would trade its 2.5L diesel engine for the modern 2.4L GD unit.

Revealing images have previewed the design of the 2016 Innova, which looks similar to its predecessor in overall size, but finer aspects like the headlights, taillights and grille see a revolutionary change. Overall, it appears that Toyota engineers have increased the length of the Innova to accommodate a more spacious and luxurious cabin.
Taking cues from the new Fortuner, which entered its second generation last week, Toyota could up the safety quotient of the 2016 Innova by fitting it with seven airbags (the current model gets a maximum of two airbags), ESC and VSM.
Further, the Innova too will benefit from the new GD series of diesel engines, which are paired to 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. However, where the 2016 Fortuner and Hilux Revo were introduced with two diesel engine displacement options (2.4- and 2.8-liters), the Innova is likely to get only the smaller 2.4-liter engine.

For select Asian and Middle Eastern markets, Toyota will also offer the Innova with its 2.7-liter VVT-i petrol engine, however a petrol-engined Innova is unlikely to be re-launched in India.
