Gets an elegant and contemporary design
The 2016 Hyundai Elantra (2016 Hyundai Avante in Korea) has been rendered by our in-house digital artist Shoeb Kalania based on the teasers released by the company. The sedan is scheduled to make its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
The render shows that the new Elantra features a more elegant and contemporary design in tune with the company’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 language. The fascia gets a bigger hexagonal chrome grille with five horizontal slats. The front bumpers get L-shaped enclosures with embedded small circular fog lamps. The headlamps get sleeker with a swept back design incorporating projector units and LED DRLs.
Moving to the sides, the most noticeable aspects are the flared wheel arches and a striking shoulder line that moves progressively higher as it moves to the rear. The C-pillar looks slimmer and gets a kink at the middle giving the rear sharpness.
There are reports that 53 percent of the body will be made from high-strength steel to improve rigidity and with its aerodynamic shape, the 2016 Elantra will have just 0.27 Cd, making it one of the most aerodynamically-efficient cars in its class.
Interior spyshots show that the Honda Civic rival loses the flowing dashboard layout for a simpler design with emphasis on build quality. The cabin is also expected to receive a new 8-inch infotainment system with new colour schemes and premium Infinity audio unit. Safety features such as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and pedestrian detection system, are expected on the vehicle.
The 2016 Hyundai Elantra is likely to source power from a 1.6 Turbo GDi delivering 175 bhp and mated to a 7-speed DCT or a 6-speed manual. The European/Korean version is likely to get Hyundai's new 1.7-liter diesel engine, used on the Tucson and Korean-spec Sonata, producing 141 hp and 340 Nm of torque on the latter, mated to a 7-speed DCT.
