The City is India's second most fuel efficient car.

Launched in January 2014, the new Honda City has become the best seller for the Japanese car maker in India, even overtaking the smaller and more affordable Honda Amaze in sales numbers.

Honda Cars India sold 84,991 units of the new City in the 13 month period from January 2014 to January 2015. This number would have been higher had the car maker not stopped production of the sedan for a month (owing to shift in production from its Greater Noida plant to the Tapukara, Rajashtan plant).

In comparison, the 13 month period since launch of the Honda Amaze saw sales numbers of 80,263 units. Since the City's launch, the Amaze has become the second top-selling product for the manufacturer.

Both, the Amaze and the City, share the 1.5-liter four-cylinder i-DTEC diesel engine capable of 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque. Where the Amaze gets a 5-speed manual gearbox, the City uses a 6-speed unit. ARAI-rated fuel efficiency figures stand at 26 km/l for the City and 25.8 km/l for the Amaze.
