Launches early next year.
Another spyshot of the upcoming 2016 Ford Endeavour has been sent to us courtesy of reader Mr. Timothy. It was taken this week near the Ford plant in Chennai.
The new Endeavour is scheduled to be previewed in India by the end of the year. However, Nigel Harris, President and Managing Director of Ford India, had confirmed to IAB that “in reality (Ford will) bring it early next year.”
The early 2016 date points at the possibility of a launch during the 2016 Auto Expo, scheduled between the 5th and 9th of February, 2016. The Ford Endeavour is expected to be available in two variants: a 2.2 L TDCi four cylinder diesel and a 3.2 L 5 cylinder TDCi engine. The larger engine will come exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission, while higher variants get 4WD option.
For the Chinese market the all-new Ford Endeavour (christened the Ford Everest) comes with projector headlights, a powered tailgate, Ford’s SYNC2 infotainment system with voice commands, an 8-inch touchscreen display with a 9-speaker audio system and a sub-woofer, powered third row seats, and new Terrain Management System.
This is one of three cars that Ford has planned for India, the other two being the Ford Figo Aspire and the next-gen Ford Figo hatchback. The Blue Oval will be supplying the car to India via the CKD route, and the kits will be sourced from Thailand, and assembly operations will continue at Ford’s plant in Chennai.
The launch of this car will give Ford another shot at the INR 20 lakh SUV segment which will witness the launch of a new Toyota Fortuner, a new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and a new Nissan X-Trail, all within about 12 months.
