It will get a flex-fuel engine, possibly the 1.8-liter unit from the Civic.
The Honda Vezel (will be branded HR-V in USA, Indonesia and Europe) was snapped testing in Brazil by a reader of Carsale. The Vezel, which sees Honda enter the highly lucrative compact SUV segment, is reported to launch in Brazil next year. The company will showcase the SUV at the Sao Paulo Motor Show which takes place towards the end of this month.
The local media report that Honda will equip the Vezel with the 1.8-liter i-VTEC flex-fuel motor from the Civic. This engine is good for 139 hp (140 hp in case of ethanol) and 175 Nm of torque (177 Nm for ethanol) on the Civic, and comes paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. A CVT automatic could also be offered.
The Vezel for the American market, which goes by the name HR-V, measures 4,295 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, 1,605 mm in height and 2,610 mm in wheelbase. Similar dimensions could be seen on the Brazilian model as well.
For the Indian market, Honda have no plans to launch the Vezel, as it would be unable to price it competitively. Instead, a crossover based on the Brio’s platform is being developed reportedly.
Competitors: Nissan Juke, Fiat 500X, Renault Captur
Launch date in Brazil: 2015
