Yesterday we told you that the 2014 Mercedes E Class (or the refreshed E Class if you want to call it that) could be launched in India on June 25. Economic Times had reported Mr. Eberhard Kern, MD of Mercedes Benz India, saying that the car would launch in India on that day.
Today, there seems to be more conclusive proof that the launch of the car can be soon expected. What you see here is the 2014 E Class caught testing in Pune by Team BHP's spy photographers. Team BHP report that the E Class could be undergoing ARAI certification and homologation.
The facelifted E Class was unveiled to the world only in January this year at the Detroit Motor Show. The new E Class is a comprehensively updated model, boasting changes to the exterior, interior and some mechanicals as well.
Features such as LED taillights and LED daytime running lights (integrated into the headlight assembly) are seen on the new model, not to mention the new design for the lights, bumpers and the hood.
The interior color scheme has been changed and a lot of soft touch plastics have been added to make the new E Class more premium.
The version spotted testing here is the E250 CDI which is powered by a 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine producing 201bhp of power. Expect the E250 CDI to be accompanied by a more powerful iteration of the same engine option and a couple of petrol engines as well. Mercedes claim improved fuel economy throughout the range.
While the new E Class is out testing, Mercedes India has been witnessing a strong demand for the existing E Class with over 800 units being sold last quarter. The E Class is currently a star performer in the Mercedes range and it should continue to be so through this mid-life update.
