The 2014 Mercedes E Class facelift is on view in Detroit this morning. The 2014 E Class has already been previewed through a series of leaks and press shots but here are live images from the model's first public event.
The changes come in the form of new styling, engine improvements, increased standard equipment and new features.
As we've mentioned in the past, the split headlamp arrangement has given way to a single piece assembly. LED daytime running lights are standard. The taillights have been revised, with LEDs infused there as well. The front and rear bumpers are re-cast and the bonnet is shaped differently.
A two-part trim sits on the soft-touch dashboard, in two wood finishes – burl walnut or black ash. A 3-tube instrument cluster, a trapezoidal head-unit display, the air vent design and the analogue clock are new on the 2014 model.
The E Class facelift will come in petrol variants such as the E200 that uses a 2L engine producing 181 hp or 208 hp in the E250. The E350 is powered by a V6 3.5-liter engine that makes 302 hp while there are E400 and E550 which are not relevant to the Indian market.
The E200 CDI (diesel) is powered via a 4-cylinder, 2.1-liter turbodiesel unit making 134 hp, which is used on the E220 CDI to develop a higher 168 hp, and 201 hp in the flagship E250 CDI that replaces the E350 V6 engine.
The 2014 E Class has plenty of improved safety features and a new electromechanical steering system. Safety features include DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist, Brake Assist system BAS PLUS with Cross-Traffic Assist, PRE-SAFE Brake, PRE-SAFE PLUS, PRE-SAFE, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Adaptive Highbeam Assist PLUS, Active Parking Assist and a Surround View Camera for parking.
