Volvo's smallest SUV to be unveiled in April 2017.
With the introduction of the Volvo Concept 40.1 in May 2016, Volvo previewed the Volvo XC40 (name TBC) - a new compact SUV that will sit below the Volvo Volvo XC60. In the latest, Chinese media is reporting that the Volvo XC40 will debut at Auto Shanghai 2017 in April.
The Volvo XC40 will be the Swedish automaker's first car to ride on the CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform that has been co-developed with Geely. The CMA platform has been created specifically for smaller cars. The XC40 will likely be the first new 40 series model to be introduced.
The Volvo XC40 will source power from a 1.5-litre three-cylinder and 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. Alongside there will be an electrified variant, equipped with the T5 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid powertrain.

For all markets except China, the Volvo XC40 will be made alongside the Volvo S40 (name TBC) sedan in Ghent, Belgium. For China, the XC40 will share its production line with the Lynk & Co 01.
A report last year said that sales of the new compact SUV will commence in 2018, although it is yet understood whether this applies to China too.
