The second generation Volvo XC60 will be based on on the company’s SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform that currently underpins the Volvo XC90, Volvo S90 and Volvo V90. The new modular platform will bring considerable weight reductions that will help improve the vehicle’s performance and efficiency, and allow Volvo to offer its latest alternative powertrains. The new generation model will incorporate the latest exterior and interior design theme followed by the aforementioned latest models.

Sitting below the Volvo XC90 and above the Volvo XC40 that will follow in late 2017, the 2017 Volvo XC60 will likely be offered with an array of Drive-E turbocharged and supercharged three- and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The range will include a Twin Engine petrol-electric plug-in hybrid model as well. In the UK, the all-new XC60 will be available in D4 model with 187 bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine and D5 model with 232 bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. The T8 Twin Engine model will follow later with around 400 bhp on tap.
