Get a six-speed gearbox.
Autocar Professional reports that UM Motorcycles is planning to introduce the three Renegade variants - Commando, Classic, and Sport S - in a price range of INR 1.50-1.75 lakhs (ex-showroom). The there models are scheduled to be introduced at the 2016 Auto Expo in Greater Noida on February 3.
To compete with motorcycles like the Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise, Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 and 500, and the Hyosung Aquila 250, the Renegade cruisers will be assembled with 60 percent local content, due to which the company can position the motorcycles in the sub-INR 2 lakh price segment. Despite the high localisation, the company is reported to import the engine that will be shared among the three Renegade variants.
Speaking to Autocar Professional, Rajeev Mishra, director, UM India and AMEA (Asia, Middle East and Africa), has revealed that the company is working on localising the powertrain in the coming months. At launch, the 279 cc single-cylinder water-cooled engine will be tuned to produce 25 bhp of maximum power and 21.8 Nm of peak torque, and will be mated to a six-speed gearbox, in all the three models.
Mishra further said that the brand is looking to build up its own niche segment in India and hence it is not looking to particularly compete with any of the existing motorcycles in the market.
