The Tata Zest compact sedan has been caught testing. The car was first revealed ahead of the Auto Expo 2014. Now, a reader of Motorbeam has caught the car undergoing testing with some heavy camouflage.
Power for the Zest will come from a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine - the Revotron family of engines - that makes 85 PS and 140 Nm of torque. A 1.5-liter diesel engine, making 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque, coupled with F-tronic AMT gearbox will be available. There's also a five-speed manual as standard for both vehicles.
It is puzzling to think that Tata Motors would continue to test the camouflaged Zest with its launch expected within a few months. The test might be, however, to evaluate certain components or software to potentially replace them. The car in this guise could also be putting a new engine map on test.
The Zest will compete in the highly competitive compact sedan segment that now consists of the Hyundai Xcent, in addition to the Honda Amaze and Maruti Swift Dzire.
