The Tata Magic Iris was showcased at the Auto Expo back in 2010 and since then there has been little or no information on this model.
Tata has launched this vehicle in a few parts of India as a substitute to the auto rickshaw but these UFO-like objects haven't been spotted on roads in the main metros. The Bajaj RE60 is one of its competitors and the Mahindra Gio Compact Cab is another rival we can think of. These are ultra-low cost people movers with restricted power and top speed.
According to our sources, Tata Motors is making good progress on developing variants for the Magic Iris. The CNG variant is spotted on test here but what comes as a more important update are the foldable plastic curtains replaced by fiber glass panels held together with the cabin using screws. You can see from the image on the left hand side the two variations of the windows. Has Tata made this upgrade after seeing glass windows on the Bajaj RE60?
The Magic Iris sources power from a single cylinder 611cc, water-cooled diesel engine Tata Motors developed in partnership with Greaves.
