The company is looking to boost output rapidly.
Suzuki Motor Corporation is investing on a second production line at its plant in Gujarat even before plant operations commence in the first quarter of 2017.
The first product to enter production is the Maruti Baleno, which will be followed by the next generation Maruti Swift Dzire. Reports also suggest that the Gujarat plant will be the production hub of the Suzuki Ignis for international markets.
The second assembly line is expected to open at the start of 2019. Speaking to Autocar Professional, RC Bhargava, chairman of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said that construction work of the new plant is progressing as per plan. SMC is planning an additional investment of around INR 8,500 crore in the Gujarat factory. The report says six assembly lines are planned at the site, each designed to produce 250,000 cars a year.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki has two plants located in Manesar and Gurgaon, which have a combined annual capacity of 1.5 million vehicles. With Suzuki's Gujarat plant up to speed, the total Indian capacity will double to 3 million cars a year.
