Launches in India in early 2015.
The Suzuki SX4 S-Cross which has been testing in India for a while is all set to be launched in Malaysia shortly and the carmaker has showcased the compact crossover at the Matrade exhibition centre in Kuala Lumpur.
The SX4 S-Cross will replace its aging predecessor, which came into existence as a result of a technical collaboration between Suzuki and Fiat. It remains to be seen what Suzuki will call the crossover in Malaysia since the show car carried plates reading just 'S-Cross' while the tailgate had the 'SX4' badge.
The new gen model has grown in size and offers more equipment to justify its more premium positioning. The car measures 4,300 in length, 1,795 mm in width, 1,575 mm in height and 2,600 mm in wheelbase.
In international markets, the SX4 S-Cross is available with 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines but only the former is expected to make it to the Malaysian market. The four-cylinder unit generates 118 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 156 Nm at 4,400 rpm. Mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT, the engine sends power either to the front wheels or all four wheels.
Maruti is working to launch the Renault Duster rival in India sometime in the early part of next year. The Indian version would be available in both petrol and diesel versions.
