"A bold, striking design complemented by a host of state-of-the-art technologies", is how Renault describes the small car on its website.
Based on the modular CMF-A platform, the Renault Kayou will be powered by a 0.8-liter three-cylinder petrol engine matched to a 5-speed manual and automated manual transmission. A diesel variant will not be offered on the small car.
The Kayou will be priced under INR 4 lakhs, Renault India's CEO, Mr. Sumit Sawhney confirmed to Indian Autos Blog. Spyshots have shown the Maruti Alto-rival to ride on 13- or 14-inch wheels wrapped on slim rubber, much like its competitors. A single wiper at the front highlights the budget positioning of the car, but in terms of design, the Kayou will be inspired by Renault's global language.
