A diesel variant will not be available.
Indian Autos Blog reader, Mr. Kumaran Guna, snapped the Renault XBA (reported to be called the Renault Kayou) while it was testing on the outskirts of Chennai. Set to be unveiled on May 20, the Kayou will be an entry-level model rivaling the likes of the Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon in the Indian market.
The Kayou's world premiere will take place in Chennai, making it the first global Renault model to have its debut outside Europe. When launched in India towards the second half of this year, it will be priced below INR 4 lakhs, Renault India's CEO, Mr. Sumit Sawhney told Indian Autos Blog. For markets in Europe, where it could also be badged a Dacia, reports suggest a 5,000 EUR (INR 3.59 lakhs) pricetag.
For the Indian market, the Renault Kayou will source power from a 0.8-liter three-cylinder petrol engine matched to manual and possibly even automated manual transmissions. Renault will not be offering a diesel version of the Kayou.

The Kayou will be the first product to be based on the CMF-A platform in India. The underpinnings of the car will be shared with Datsun's entry-level model - codenamed I2 - as well.
