Will be exported to Brazil as SKD kits this year.
Renault will commence export operations of the Renault Kwid, where it will first be exported to countries like Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan. Other than that, Renault is also exploring new markets for the Kwid, where market regulations would be similar to that of India, reports ET Auto.
Renault India will first solidify its exports to RHD markets, before focusing on LHD markets. Markets like Brazil, Russia, South America, Iran and Morrocco will be added to the list, where they are likely to be assembled with kits imported from India.
Renault has already announced that the Kwid will be locally assembled in Brazil this year. It will be slightly different from the India-spec Kwid, with respect to the chassis and safety features. Renault Technology Americas (RTA) and Renault Design Latin America (RDLA) have had a hand in developing the local-spec model to meet the Latin NCAP’s strict safety regulations.
Under the hood is likely to be a 1.0-litre SCe three cylinder flex-fuel engine capable of running on petrol and ethanol, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. An Easy-R automated manual transmission could be offered in the higher grades. The Brazil-spec Kwid is confirmed to get four airbags and ABS, differently-styled door moldings and a slightly revised interior.
