Will reportedly be launched at the 2016 Sao Paulo Auto Show.

After months of test mule sightings, the Renault Kwid has finally gone official in Brazil. Renault has confirmed that it will locally produce the car for the South American market. The Brazilian-spec model has been modified by Renault Technology Americas (RTA) and Renault Design Latin America (RDLA).

The Renault Kwid will be built in Brazil at the Ayrton Senna Industrial Complex in Curitiba, where currently the Renault Logan, Renault Sandero, Renault Duster, Renault Duster Oroch and Renault Master are built on two production lines. Renault Brazil doesn’t say a word on when it plans to commence the Kwid’s production, but it was reported late last year that September 2016 is the month. Brazil will source the Kwid in SKD form from India and the market launch will happen at the 2016 Sao Paulo Auto Show.

Renault is coy on specifics but domestic media reports say that the Fiat Mobi rival will be offered with a 1.0-litre SCe three cylinder flex-fuel engine capable of running on petrol and ethanol, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Easy-R automated manual transmission may be offered in the upper trim levels. The Brazilian-spec model is expected to have differently-styled door moldings, larger door mirrors, lesser chrome and a modified interior.
