Expected to be priced below INR 8 lakhs.
It was reported earlier this year that Renault is planning a slew of compact models for India, including an SUV, a sedan and and MPV. Now, according to a new report from Economic Times, the compact SUV will go on sale between October to December 2019.
The new compact SUV (codename: Renault HBC) will be based on the CMF-A+ platform, a modified version of the Renault Kwid's platform, and will compete with the Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Ford EcoSport.
B-segment SUVs have been highly successful in India, especially the sub-4 models ones like those mentioned above. Moved by the growing popularity of the sub-compact SUVs in the market, Volkswagen (with next-gen Polo-based SUV), Tata Motors (with Nexon) and Honda (with WR-V) join this league by the end of the decade.
Hyundai, which already sells the Creta in this space, will also bring a new, sub-4 metre model derived from the Carlino (HND-14) concept around the time the HBC is introduced.

Whether the Renault HBC will be a sub-4 metre SUV cannot be said with certainty just yet. Changes in the classification of vehicles for taxation to be brought in once GST is implemented could influence this decision.
