World debut to take place at 2016 Paris Motor Show.
The next generation Ssangyong Rexton is confirmed to make its debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in October. Ahead of its unveil, IAB's Shoeb R Kalania has rendered the next gen full size SUV, based on spyshots and reports.
Internally called the ‘Ssangyong Y400’, the next gen SUV will draw most of the design cues from the Ssangyong LIV-1 concept, yet will have a stronger and more defined styling than the concept. It features a sloping roof line similar to the Tivoli, trademark squared line above the rear wheel arch seen in the LIV-1 concept is duplicated over the front wheel for tougher look.
The interior of the next gen Rexton hasn't been revealed yet, although reports suggest that it will be a massive step up with respect to build quality. The cabin will have leather upholstery with wood-effect finishes and chrome detailing. Unlike latest products from other manufacturers, the Rexton's center console will have a plethora of buttons and a touchscreen system. As for practicality, it will continue offering a 7-seater option.
The next gen Rexton will continue with the ladder-frame platform, but is claimed to be 50 kg lighter than the outgoing model. Under the hood will be a new 2.0-litre GDi turbocharged petrol engine paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. A diesel variant with a 178 PS 2.2-litre diesel from the outgoing model will be offered in markets where diesel SUVs are in demand.
