UK – Ssangyong Rexton and Korando 60th anniversary special editions introduced

Ssangyong Motors, the fourth largest South Korean automaker, is celebrating its 60th year of existence by introducing Anniversary Special Editions of the Ssangyong Rexton W and Korando in the UK.
Ssangyong which means “Double Dragon” in the Korean language was established in 1954 under the name Ha Dong-Hwan Motor Workshop, producing trucks, special purpose vehicles and buses. The brand has been utilizing Mercedes-Benz technologies and platforms under license for long, and is now owned by India’s Mahindra & Mahindra.
Ssangyong Korando 60th Anniversary Special Edition
The Ssangong Korando compact SUV was facelifted last year. The Special Edition model is based on the top-end ELX4 four wheel drive variant. The added features include new 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, chrome detailing, electric sunroof and a rear roof-mounted spoiler. The special edition version is available in a special metallic Pearl White Lily exterior color.
The Korando is powered by a home-grown 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine which puts out 149 PS (146.9 bhp) and 360 Nm of torque. The Ssangyong Korando Special Edition is available in both manual and automatic variants (both are 6-speed units) at 21,245 pounds (around INR 21.83 lakhs) and 22,745 pounds (around INR 23.37 lakhs) respectively.
Ssangyong Rexton W 60th Anniversary Special Edition
The Ssangyong Rexton W Special Edition is based on the EX trim and offers extra features like front parking sensors, electric sunroof, heated front and rear seats, power adjustable passenger seat and DAB sat nav system. The anniversary edition Rexton W also comes painted in metallic Pearl White Lily color.
Power comes from a 2.0-litre e-XDi200 diesel engine which delivers 155 PS (152.8 bhp) and 360 Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual or a 5-speed T-Tronic (Mercedes-sourced) automatic transmission is mated to the engine. The prices of the Anniversary Edition stand at 25,995 pounds (around INR 26.71 lakhs) and 27,495 pounds (around INR 28.26 lakhs) for the manual and automatic variants respectively.
It remains to be seen whether Mahindra will launch the Special Edition Rexton in India.
