First model to get the new AMG Sport variant.
The Mercedes GLE Coupe has been unveiled ahead of its world premiere at the NAIAS 2015 (Detroit Auto Show) in January 2015. Following the footsteps of the immensely popular BMW X6 which has entered its second generation, the GLE Coupe tastefully combines the characteristics of a brawny SUV with an elegant coupe.
Based on the M Class platform (which has been renamed as GLE), the GLE Coupe follows the design cues that were previewed by the Concept Coupe SUV. The front fascia follows the three-pointed star's new design language which first featured in the MFA models with a bold grille and curvy headlamps.
The highlight of the design is the silhouette which has the high stance of an SUV and dynamic swooping roofline of a coupe. The rear end design is in the same page as the S Coupe and AMG-GT.
The interior design is based on the GLE (M Class) but the Coupe gets new centre AC vents, infotainment display, sports steering and sports seats. Nappa leather and wood, silver and aluminium accents adorn the cabin.
The GLE Coupe is the first Mercedes to spawn an AMG Sports variant - the GLE 450 AMG. The range-topping variant is powered by a V6 biturbo petrol engine to produce 367 hp and 520 Nm of torque. A 9G-Tronic automatic transmission sends power through the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
The car is also available in the GLE 350d 4MATIC (diesel) and GLE 400 4MATIC (petrol) variants. The diesel model offers 258 hp and 620 Nm of torque while the petrol model delivers 333 hp and 480 Nm of torque.
