Daimler has acknowledged the fact that Mercedes is behind German rivals and an important reason is because it did not concentrate enough on China. Mercedes is setting things right by planning more frequent launches and expanding into new segments.
The Mercedes E Class facelift is ready for its official debut at the Detroit Motor Show. Mercedes is in the middle of developing an LWB (long wheelbase) version of the facelifted E Class for the Chinese markets. Generally, LWB versions are developed after the global debut of model. Mercedes is wasting no time for the LWB model hinting that the Chinese debut of the facelifted E Class will happen soon after Detroit.
The Chinese have a special liking for cars with extra leg space. Almost all luxury manufacturers develop an LWB version of their existing line up to feed the Chinese demand. These LWB models are not sold anywhere else in the world, they are manufactured only in China.
The current “dual headlamp” Mercedes E Class is already available in a lengthened variant. It is available in three guises - E200L (1.8L turbocharged petrol engine with 184hp), E260L (1.8L turbocharged petrol engine with 204 hp) and the E300L (3.0L V6 with 231hp).
The facelifted Mercedes E Class will be available in one more avatar E400L (3.5 V6 engine with 333hp/490Nm) according to Chinese website Sohu.
Prices should start with a little more than 488000 yuan (43.06 lakhs INR)
