The Maruti Wagon R Stingray is the next launch lined up by the country's largest car maker. As regular readers know, the Stingray is nothing but a Wagon R that wears a different attitude..
After viewing numerous spyshots of white demo vehicles, we have yet another set of images of a red Stingray (possibly the communication color) today from Autos Arena.
Up front, the Stingray looks sleeker thanks to the new headlights and grille. Maruti would offer projector headlights on the Stingray making it a segment first (previously the cheapest car you could buy with factory installed projector lights was the top-end model of the Skoda Fabia).
Notice that the Stingray gets a different front bumper and alloy wheel design. Towards the rear, the combination lights get a silver surround to them while the 'Stingray' logo is embellished in chrome for the number plate housing. Inside, the Stingray gets an all-black interior theme to the regular Wagon R's dual-tone beige interiors.
The car spotted here, though in VXi spec, lacks ABS and airbags (there is no ABS sticker on the bootlid and the steering wheel is devoid of the 'SRS AIRBAG' logo). That's a sign that there would be at least two Stingray variants on sale, if not an even lower LXi variant.
According to trade media reports, the Stingray will launch on August 21. Expect Maruti to charge a premium of about INR 50,000 over the everyday Wagon R.
