It has been almost nine years since the Mahindra Thar was originally launched back in 2010. But the SUV will soon go off the charts with the implementation of stricter crash test rules under BNVSAP which will come into play on 1 October 2019. To give a proper send-off to the current-generation SUV, the company will launch a limited-run 'Thar Signature Edition' soon. The first details and images of this special edition model have leaked online today.
The Mahindra Thar Signature Edition will be restricted only to 700 units and will be made available in two exclusive paint schemes including Napoli Black and Aqua Marine. The SUV will feature 5-spoke, 15-inch alloy wheels from the previous-gen Mahindra Scorpio and the Marksman, black decals on the bonnet lid and silver finish on the front bumper. Part of its exclusive exterior treatment will be a special ‘Signature Edition’ badge on its fenders as well, stamped with the signature of Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group.
Inside, the Mahindra Thar Signature Edition will have leatherette seat covers with Thar branding. The cabin is said to be more interior space than the regular model. Another major difference will be that it will feature front-facing rear seats.
Since the base Thar DI variant has already been discontinued in the market, the limited-run Thar Signature Edition will come in only the CRDe variant. The 2.5L CRDe diesel engine churns out 79 kW (107.41 PS) and 247 Nm of torque. It will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox which will be carried over from the regular model.
