Market launch expected in the third week of Jan 2016.
A Mahindra S101 prototype has been snapped by an IAB reader. The model is expected to launch in the third week of January, in a price range of INR 4-7 lakhs (ex-showroom).
The S101 will be the company's first product in the small car segment comprising of hatchbacks like the Maruti Wagon R, Chevrolet Beat, and the forthcoming Tata Zica. Likely to be called the Mahindra XUV100, the S101 is based on a brand new monocoque platform which is reported to spawn more models in the future.
Mahindra's first hatchback is expected to be loaded with safety, entertainment and other functional features. The cabin is reported to seat six people, as spyshots have shown the front seat to be a bench-type unit.

The XUV100 will be powered by an all-new 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine and expectedly the 1.5-litre mHawk 80 three-cylinder diesel motor that is doing duty in the Mahindra TUV300. Both engines would get a five-speed manual gearbox as standard, while the diesel version could get an option of a five-speed AMT.
