Will debut a three-cylinder petrol engine from the brand.
Seen here is the first teaser image of the Mahindra S101 (codename), albeit a little enhanced using a photoshop software. Mahindra has announced that it will reveal the name of the product on December 18, though the internet is awash with rumors of it being called the "Mahindra KUV100".
Mahindra refers to the S101 as a "compact SUV". When launched (the market launch is likely to place in the third week of January 2016), the KUV100 will be the smallest and most affordable product from the brand. It will ride on a monocoque, front-wheel drive architecture which will later span a family of products.
The recent ban on diesel vehicles in the NCR region has put Mahindra at a loss, as almost all its products use a diesel engine displacing more than 2,000 cc. To de-risk its business, and to appeal to a new audience, Mahindra will be introducing an all-new petrol engine on the S101. The engine in question is reported to be a 1.2-liter three-cylinder unit delivering about 80 bhp.
In addition to the all-new petrol engine, the S101 will also be powered by a three-cylinder diesel engine, which apart from a 5-speed manual gearbox will also offer an automated manual transmission (AMT).
Internet reports have stated that the Mahindra S101/Mahindra KUV100 will have a starting price of INR 4 lakhs, ex-Showroom.
