Market launch expected next month.
Mahindra will announce the brand name of their all-new car, codenamed Mahindra S101, on December 18, the company announced today in a statement. The company calls it a "compact SUV" though the model is perceived to be a direct price competitor to the Maruti Wagon R, Chevrolet Beat and the upcoming Tata Zica.
The Mahindra S101 is anticipated to be named the Mahindra XUV100 since it is the second product in the company's passenger car portfolio to be underpinned by a monocoque platform after the Mahindra XUV500. While the XUV500 is a seven seater, the compact SUV that is slated for launch in the third week of January is expected to be a 5+1 seater with a bench seat up front.

It will be powered by a new three-cylinder petrol engine that would be mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The diesel engine could be borrowed from the TUV300. An AMT variant on either version is also expected to be on offer.
