The upcoming 110 cc scooter from Mahindra 2 Wheelers was caught on test in Lonavla, Maharashtra, recently. Set to challenge the likes of the Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter, Yamaha Alpha and the Suzuki Let's, Mahindra is expected to launch this scooter by the end of this year.
An image partially revealing the front of the scooter shows us the design of the indicator lights and the air vents. The scooter is reported as sporting an unisex design, like that of the Activa.
Power for this scooter could come from the same engine doing duty on the Pantero/Centuro motorbikes. This single-cylinder, air-cooled, four-stroke 106.7 cc engine is capable of producing 8.5 PS at 7,500 rpm and 8.5 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm in the Pantero and Centuro. Given the nature of the competition in this segment, we would expect this scooter to return in excess of 60 km/l.
Mahindra 2 Wheelers are currently unrepresented in the 110 cc scooter segment. Other scooters from the brand - Rodeo, Duro, Flyte - are 125 cc scooters, while the Kine is a 75 cc scooter. The reigning champion of the 110 cc scooter segment, the Activa, went on to become the best selling two-wheeler in India for the month of March this year, giving you some idea of how important this segment is for a mass-market manufacturer.
Apart from this scooter, Mahindra 2 Wheelers will also launch the 300 cc Mojo in India this year.
