It's no secret that Mahindra 2 Wheelers will launch a Honda Activa rivaling 110 cc scooter in the market soon. The new scooter, codenamed Mahindra G101, was caught testing in Pune recently by Autocar India.
A source in the know told Indian Autos Blog that the scooter is near production ready and that Mahindra could launch the motorcycle anytime soon. The new scooter will be a precious addition to Mahindra 2 Wheeler's existing scooter portfolio which consists of the Rodeo RZ, Duro DZ, Flyte and Kine.
With these scooters, Mahindra is unrepresented in the highly lucrative 110 cc segment, as the Rodeo, Duro and Flyte are powered by a 125 cc engine, while the Kine gets a 72 cc motor. The 110 cc scooter segment is currently dominated by Honda, which sells four products - Activa, Activa i, Dio and Aviator - in this segment. By the end of this month, the Japanese manufacturer will be seen in the 125 cc scooter segment thanks to the Activa 125.
The new Mahindra G101 could borrow its engine from the Pantero/Centuro motorbikes. The engine in question is a single-cylinder, air-cooled, four-stroke 106.7 cc unit which produces 8.5 PS at 7,500 rpm and 8.5 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm in the bikes.
Apart from the scooter, Mahindra 2 Wheelers will also launch the highly awaited 300 cc Mojo in India this year.
