The Maruti XL6 has been spied up close for the first time, that too in a never seen before lower grade, probably Zeta or Delta. Like the Maruti Ciaz, it will be available with two alloy wheel options. While the Alpha grade will feature black alloy wheels, the Zeta and/or Delta grade(s) will have the same, silver alloy wheels as the Maruti Ertiga, as seen in the spy shots in the video embedded below.

The 'XL6' name doesn't look all that unfamiliar when we look at Maruti Suzuki's history. The previous generation Grand Vitara seven-seater that the company launched early last decade was known as the 'XL-7'. As seen in the video above, the XL6 will be a Maruti Ertiga-based six-seater featuring SUV-inspired styling.

The Maruti XL6' front-end front fascia carries noticeable differences in terms of design. The sharper headlamps, bigger hexagonal grille featuring twin chrome slats bridging the LED DRLs of the headlamps, the chunkier bumper and the faux skid all are aimed at making the model look more aggressive. On the sides, there will be black cladding on the lower body, silver-finished roof rails and silver garnish on the rocker panels. At the back, there will be more a more muscular bumper and a faux skid plate.

The Maruti XL6 will be offered with more and better equipment than the Maruti Ertiga. In addition to captain seats, it is said to come with automatic, LED headlamps, cruise control, leather seat upholstery and automatic wipers as well.

Under the hood, the Maruti XL6 is expected to make use of the BS-VI version of the K15 SMART HYBRID petrol engine which develops 77 kW (104.6 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm at 4,400 rpm in BS-IV form. This engine comes mated to  a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed AT and is claimed to deliver a mileage of 19.34 km/l (MT)/18.69 km/l (AT) in the Maruti Ertiga.
