Will be targeted mainly at European markets.

The first-ever Kia Optima Wagon was all but confirmed last year following the introduction of the fourth generation Kia Optima sedan in April. The company hasn't made an announcement stating that it will launch an estate version, but it has said that a new body style inspired by the Kia Sportspace concept will be added to the Optima range in future, and even before that statement was made, Paul Philpott, President & CEO at Kia Motors UK and Ireland, revealed during an interview that a wagon version will be launched.

The Kia Optima estate will be a production evolution of the Kia Sportspace concept.

As expected, Kia Optima Wagon is currently under development and test mules in production body are being tested around the world. In the latest, the wagon version has been spied in South Korea, courtesy of bobaedream. The production version doesn't feature the dramatic 20-inch ten-spoke alloy wheels with carbon-fibre inserts or the sporty dual exhaust tailpipes from the concept, but sees addition of roof rails. The taillamps appear to be different from the sedan version and are probably inspired by those seen on the concept.

The Kia Sportspace concept-based Kia Optima Wagon should be offered with two engine options in Europe - 2.0-litre petrol and 1.7-litre diesel.

The Euro-spec Kia Optima Wagon should be offered with the same engine options as the Euro-spec sedan version: a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 163 PS (120 kW/161 hp) and 196 Nm of torque and a 1.7-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine good for 141 PS (104 kW/139 hp) and 340 Nm of torque. Similarly, the transmission choices should include 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic and 7-speed DCT automatic.

The Sportspace concept is powered by a diesel-electric T-Hybrid system that featured in the Optima T-Hybrid concept at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The sedan version will be available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain starting this year and it'll be interesting to see if Kia offers that in the estate version as well.

The Optima wagon is expected to come loaded with features like Dynamic Bending Headlamps, 360-degree Around View Monitor, Smart Parking Assist System (SPAS), 7.0- or 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation system, Harman Kardon Premium Sound system with 10 speakers and an external amplifier, wireless charging, USB charging and much more.
