The Jaguar XE was officially confirmed back in April this year. The XE will compete against the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C-Class and Audi A4.
The sedan will be based on a brand new aluminium platform called the iQ. The engines for the XE will be made at Jaguar's upcoming engine facility in Wolverhampton, UK. The new family of engines, called Ingenium, are claimed to offer surprisingly low CO2 emissions. A performance oriented variant of the XE has also been confirmed with the F-Type's V6 engine.
While the XE will use newly developed four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines, performance-oriented variants that can potentially rival the BMW M3 will get their power from the V6 engine used in the Jaguar F-Type.
The Jaguar XE will be one of the first models to not use the existing Ford engines and mark the start of Jaguar's own engine families under Tata Motors' ownership.
