Believed to be the mid-variant.
The 2016 Toyota Fortuner has been photographed by Paultan reader Mohd Rusdi travelling on the PLUS Highway in Tanjung Malim, Malaysia where the model is yet to be launched. The SUV was launched in Indonesia and Philippines last month, and is bound to be launched in India next year.
In Malaysia, the new Fortuner is expected to be introduced in the second or third quarter of this calendar year, alongside the new Hilux and the new Innova.
The existing Fortuner in Malaysia is offered with the choice of a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine or a 2.7-litre petrol motor. The 2016 Fortuner globally debuted with two new diesel engines - a 2.8-litre 1GD-FTV unit that produces 177 hp and 450 Nm, and a 2.4-litre 2GD-FTV unit that develops 150 hp and 400 Nm.

The petrol version gets an improved version of the same 2.7-litre Dual-VVT-I motor, which now produces 166 hp and 245 Nm. All the three engines are available on the Fortuner in Thailand. It is unclear which of the two diesel motors will be introduced in Malaysia apart from the lone petrol version.
