Honda aims to sell 6 million two-wheelers in the financial year 2017-18.
Honda India’s announcement to bring out four new products has again got motorcycle enthusiasts sitting at the edge of their seats. With the first two set to be motorcycles (the Honda Africa Twin and possibly the Honda CBR1000RR), their focus is on scooters, claims a report in Livemint.
The report says that Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd President and CEO, Mr Minoru Kato, has confirmed that two of these new products will be scooters. The Honda Activa did not just help the segment grow but has also kept the category growing faster than motorcycles. In the financial year 2016-17, Honda sold 3,351,604 scooters.
In fact, Honda India’s scooter sales grew by 14.32 percent in the last fiscal as against the industry which grew by 11.39 percent. With the 110 cc Honda Activa leading the pack by a huge margin, the company is attempting to boost the sales of the Activa 125.
HMSI is at present the biggest contributor to Honda’s global sales. With BSVI norms set to take effect in April 2020, Honda India also aims to be a major exporter to international markets.
