Entry-level engine of Honda's new VTEC Turbo range.
According to a Japanese report, the next generation Honda Freed will pack the new 1.0L VTEC Turbo engine when launched in markets like Indonesia and Japan. Currently, the 1.0L VTEC Turbo is not offered in any of Honda's products.
The 1.0L three cylinder VTEC Turbo engine is the entry-level offering of Honda's newest range of petrol engines, which produced 127 hp in an Honda Civic prototype. If the report turns out to be true, it will replace the outgoing model's 1.5-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated i-VTEC (petrol) engine that develops 118 bhp and 146 Nm of torque.
A magazine render gives an insight into its styling, which will adopt Honda's current design language. It will feature sharp headlamps, bold chrome grille, sporty front bumper and strong character line across the side profile. Expect the interior to go undergo an overhaul as well, sporting touch-sensitive buttons, new instrument console, and the HondaConnect feature.

Given that the Honda Mobilio has established itself in the segment, it's unlikely that the Indian market will get the Honda Freed or the Honda Odyssey anytime soon. The current Freed is sold in the MPV-friendly Indonesian market at prices from 226.5 million rupiah (INR 11.51 lakhs).
