IAB reader Gokulraj GK of Madcap Stationery and Merchandise has shared images of an EcoSport test unit from near Pondicherry. The 2018 Ford EcoSport SE 4WD is an export-spec model not meant for the Indian market.
Despite Romania taking away most of Ford India's Ecosport exports, its factory in Chennai caters to some export markets. The SE grade 4WD Ford EcoSport seen here is meant for the USA. This particular grade is a mid-level offering sitting between the entry-level S and top-end SES and Titanium grades. The 4WD badge points toward the presence of a 2.0 L Ti-VCT I4 engine. It produces 166 hp at 6,500 rpm and 149 lb-ft (202 Nm) at 4,500 rpm. A 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission and 4WD are standard with this engine. It rides on 16-inch 7-spoke alloy wheels.
Visually, the clear differentiator between the India-spec EcoSport and the American model is the lack of a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. As per the specifications listed on the official website, the overall length of the US-spec model is 161.3 inches (4,097 mm), making it 99 mm longer than the car sold in India.
The made-in-India Ford EcoSport is sold in the USA in four grades - S, SE, SES, and Titanium. There are two petrol engine choices available - 1.0 L EcoBoost and 2,0 L Ti-VCT I4 petrol. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard. Pricing starts from USD 19,995 (INR 13,78,155.38) for the base S grade. The most expensive variant is the Ford EcoSport SES listed at USD 26,880 (INR 18,52,704.00).
