The production of the Datsun on-DO sedan, the first product by the budget brand in Russia, has just started. The rebadged Lada Granta will be shortly followed by its hatchback sibling named mi-DO which is nothing but a badge engineered Lada Kalina.
The third product would be a crossover based on the mi-DO and would be in line with the independently developed Kalina Cross. Here is Carobka.com's speculative rendering of Datsun's version of the crossover with a rough road package.
The yet-to-be named crossover would derive its family look from the on-DO and the mi-DO, characterized by a prominent hexagonal grille and angular headlamps. The ride height is expected to be raised and the lower body would adopt black plastic cladding.
The Datsun crossover is expected to borrow the 1.6-litre petrol from the Granta or the 1.4-litre petrol from the Kalina. Production would take place at AvtoVaz's (brand owner of Lada) Tolyatti plant.
Just like the on-DO and mi-DO, the crossover is also a Russia-specific model and wouldn't venture out of the country. The car is expected to be launched sometime in 2015. A representation of what it would cost, and what it would compete with, in India is given below for your reference.
