It's been exactly a year since we posted the first Sail spyshot on the Indian blogosphere. Since then we have seen the Sail twins in various spyshots, taped in different colours, learning Indian roads, traffic, weather, and has coped well with auto sleuths chasing it down with a camera.
The latest spyshots were snapped by our reader Shatrughan Saxena, who stuck out his camera in the middle of a Pune traffic jam to bring us these pictures.
We are yet to know why GM bothers to camouflage the Sail twins which have already premiered at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. Maybe this tactic of driving camouflaged or taped-up test mules through the cities often is to make sure that it catches the eye of potential buyer?
The Sail twins were conceived by Shanghai GM at the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) in China. It is one of the best selling cars in China, and enjoys the same status of the Swift Dzire in India, in Mexico.
For India, the sedan version will use a 1.4-liter SMARTECH petrol engine alongside a Fiat 1.3-liter Multijet engine. There is no doubt that the Sail twins will benefit immensely from Fiat's technology as diesel sedans (leaving out the exceptions) in India enjoy a long waiting period.
GM has confirmed that it will launch the Sail twins by Diwali.
