The BMW HP4 Race was previewed as a concept at EICMA 2016.
At the ongoing Auto Shanghai 2017, BMW Motorrad has showcased the production version of the 2017 BMW HP4 Race. The race-ready motorcycle will be limited to just 750 units globally.
At the heart of the motorcycle is a racing engine similar to specifications 6.2 and 7.2 as in the Endurance and Superbike World Championships. The output has been pegged at 215 hp at 13,900 rpm and 120 Nm of peak torque at 10,000 rpm. The maximum engine speed is limited at 14,500 rpm which is higher than that of the BMW S1000RR.
Coupled to the engine is a 6-speed close-ratio racing gearbox with optimised transmission ratios and various secondary ratios (diverse pinions and chain sprockets included). The BMW HP4 Race gets weight-optimised on-board electrical system which includes, Dynamic Traction Control, Wheelie control, Pit lane limiter and launch control. Also available is a 2D data logger.
The suspension system for the BMW HP4 Race includes Ohlins FGR 300 upside-down fork up front and a Ohlins TTX 36 GP spring strut in the rear. The BMW HP4 is the first bike in the world with carbon fibre main frame (which weighs just 7.8 kg). The total dry weight of the bike is pegged at 145 kg. The wheels are also made of carbon fibre.
The braking system includes a Brembo GP4 PR monoblock brake calipers with 320 T-type racing steel brake discs (thickness: 6.75 mm) at the front. The fuel tank in the BMW HP4 Race is made of aluminium.
The BMW HP4 Race is painted in BMW Motorsports colours.
