DSK Benelli is working on a new 300-400 cc single cylinder motorcycle built specifically for the Indian market. Chairman of DSK Motowheels, Shirish Kulkarni divulged the information to CarandBike at the launch of the Tornado 302R. The upcoming Benelli single cylinder bike is one of the three new offerings Benelli plans to launch in India including the TRK 502 and the Leoncino.
Elaborating on the upcoming Benelli single cylinder bike, Kulkarni said it is being developed in conjunction with DSK's R&D department. The motorcycle will be heavily localized with parts being sourced domestically. Unlike the 302R which gets its parts imported from Italy. The KTM 390 Duke rival is currently undergoing homologation and certification.
Not much is known about the specifications and other details about the bike right now. Being a street naked, it could borrow heavily from the TNT750 in terms of looks. As mentioned earlier, the engine will be a single cylinder unit with a cubic capacity of around 300-400 cc.
The new bike from Benelli will become the entry level model for the company with estimates suggesting a price of around INR 2.40-2.50 lakhs. It will play a vital role in helping Benelli increase its sales in the Indian market. Last year, DSK Benelli managed to ship around 4,200 units and aim to reach the 6,000 mark this calendar year. The new bike from Benelli will make its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo that kicks off on February 9, 2018.
