The Benelli Tornado 302 was unveiled for the first time at EICMA 2015.
A report in Car and Bike reveals that DSK Benelli’s fully-faired Yamaha R3 and Kawasaki Ninja 300 challenger, the Benelli Tornado 302 will launch in India in May 2017. The bike was showcased in India at the 2016 Auto Expo.
The report adds that the motorcycle has already received the necessary ARAI clearances. Based on the naked Benelli TNT 300, the DSK Benelli Tornado 302 gets a steel trellis frame. The front wheel gets 110/70-17 specification tyre while the rear gets a 150/60-17 unit. Brakes include twin 260 mm petal discs with four-piston callipers up front and a 240 mm rear disc with a single-piston floating calliper.
ABS is expected, least as an option. The bike gets split seats and has a 14-litre fuel tank. The Benelli Tornado 302 is suspended over 41 mm upside down forks up front and a monoshock in the rear. The ground clearance stands at 165 mm and the bike tips the scales at 190 kg. The seat height is an accessible 785 mm.
At the heart of the Benelli Tornado 302 is a 300 cc liquid-cooled, in-line twin cylinder mill capable of producing 38 PS of maximum power at 10,000 rpm and 27.4 Nm of peak torque at 9,000 rpm (European spec). The Euro 4 compliant engine has a compression ratio of 12.0:1 while the gearbox is a 6-speed unit.
To gain some share of the thriving 250-400 cc market, DSK Benelli is expected to price the Benelli Tornado 302 competitively, hovering around INR 3.2 to INR 3.5 lakhs.
