The fully faired Bajaj 200 SS has been testing in and around Pune for sometime now. The motorcycle was spied once again, this time by Overdrive.in's reader Mr. Rohan Takalkar. Based on the Pulsar 200 NS, the new motorcycle derives its styling cues from the SS 400 Concept showcased at Auto Expo 2014.
An undisguised 200 SS was spotted in a dealership yard (claimed by the posting website) a few months ago signalling an imminent start of sales. However, the launch seems to be set later than originally expected.
The fairing houses twin projector headlights and eyebrow like LED daytime running lights. Other noteworthy features include split seats, two-piece taillight and a stubby end can (missing in the 200 NS). The instrument console would be borrowed from the naked version.
Coming to the technical aspects, the 200 SS will adopt the same platform as the 200 NS. The 200cc triple-spark single cylinder 4-stroke engine produces 23.52 PS and 18.3 Nm of torque while breathing via a normal carburetor. The faired version is likely to get electronic fuel injection system that could increase the output. The 6-speed gearbox will be retained.
The faired bike would be positioned higher than the naked street fighter and Bajaj is likely to offer optional ABS. The Bajaj 200 SS would lock handlebars with the new Hero Karizma ZMR and the upcoming KTM Duke RC200.
The Pulsar SS 400 which would be derived from the KTM RC390 is expected to arrive at a later stage.
