Production has reportedly started.
Ahead of its reported launch in August 2016, the Aprilia SR 150 scooter was spied in Pune outside the company's dealership. This further bolsters its expected launch date, though according to a report dated March 8, 2016, production of the Aprilia SR 150 has already started at the company's Baramati plant (Piaggio operates a plant in Baramati, Maharashtra).
Showcased as India's first "sport-scooterbike" at the Auto Expo 2016, the Aprilia SR 150 when launched is expected to cost below INR 1 lakh, ex-Showroom.
The Aprilia SR 150 shares its engine with the Vespa 150, and Piaggio manufactures this unit locally. The 154.4 cc air-cooled single-cylinder carbureted engine with three valves develops 11.55 PS at 7,000 rpm and 11.5 Nm at 5,500 rpm and is paired with a CVT.
