As Mahindra continues testing the next-gen Scorpio (codename: Z101) on the public roads, some more spy shots have popped up online. The latest spy shots reveal the interior of the future model.

The next-gen Scorpio will likely make use of the Mahindra Marazzo's steering wheel, gear knob, control stalks and instrument cluster.

As expected, the next-gen Scorpio features an all-new dashboard layout which looks much taller and wider than that of the old model. Vertical central air vents have replaced the horizontal air vents, giving a more traditional SUV styling. Housed between them, will be a new touchscreen infotainment system, possibly a unit with portrait orientation. The new steering wheel, gear knob, control stalks and instrument cluster could be shared with the Marazzo. This move will surely help Mahindra to keep the development costs under check.

It is yet not confirmed whether the 2020 Scorpio will sit on an upgraded version of the outgoing model's ladder-frame chassis or an all-new one. But what's certain is that like the Marazzo, it has been conceptualized and shaped at Mahindra North American Technical Center (MNATC) while its engineering and development has been carried out at the Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai. Fairing completely new looks, it has been designed from the scratch. It is expected to feature a stepped roofline and Scorpio branding on the lower side of the rear doors. From the earlier spy pictures, it appears to have a longer front overhang, more rakish glass and completely new redesigned tailgate. It will have a little hunchback rear-end for a more contemporary styling.

Under the hood, the 2020 Mahindra Scorpio will have an all-new, BS-VI 2.0-litre diesel engine which is expected to deliver a maximum power of 160 PS. This engine will be 80 kg lighter than the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine of the outgoing model. 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic are the expected transmission choices. A 4WD system could be offered as an option.
