The instrument console of the 2020 Royal Enfield Thunderbird will be a single-pod unit in a semi-digital layout. While a close-up photograph of the console isn’t available, we believe that the new instrument console packs an analogue speedometer and that the functions of the fuel gauge, trip meter and the odometer and the time will be displayed on a digital screen. The single-pod display gets a chrome surround. The updated cockpit also features the new switchgear that includes rotary-style dials.
Being a Thunderbird X series model, the motorcycle features alloy wheels and a flat handlebar. As seen in previous spy photographs, the MY2020 model will carry over most of the styling cues of the old model. The front fascia will retain the circular headlight. The fuel tank and body panels will retain the curvy design from the current range. The rear section, however, will witness a few tweaks in the form of a round taillight and repositioned blinkers. The saddle will also get an update in the form of a split style layout instead of the single-piece setup from the current model.
The hardware specifications will include conventional telescopic front forks and gas-charged rear twin springs to perform the shock absorption tasks. Governed by the safety net of dual-channel ABS, the braking department will include disc brakes on both wheels.
The engine will undergo a major upgrade, and the 2020 Royal Enfield range will come with a repositioned drive chain. Other additions to the motor will include fuel injection system (for 350) and O2 sensor among other hardware updates. The performance numbers may not witness a massive change from the current mill. For reference, the 346 cc air-cooled, single-cylinder makes 20.07 PS at 5,250 rpm and 28 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The 499 cc air-cooled, single-cylinder, on the other hand, pumps out 27.57 PS at 5,250 rpm and 41.3 Nm at 4,000 rpm.
