The production Maruti Concept Future-S (codename: Maruti Y1K) was recently spied parked on a public road, courtesy ZigWheels. This is the second sighting of the future car.

Production Maruti Future S
The production Maruti Concept Future-S, as expected from the concept, has an SUV-inspired character.

Reports say that the production Maruti Concept Future-S is the next-gen Maruti Alto, while some say it’s the reborn Maruti Zen.

Like the concept, the production version has a high-set bonnet, high shoulder line, high ground clearance, flush roof rails and a rakish back glass - all of which are traits of a modern SUV. Inside, it looks like the instrument cluster, as in the concept, is positioned above the centre console, something that may draw more negative attention than being praised for the offbeat layout. It appears to be a digital unit flanked by two HVAC vents.

The production Maruti Concept Future-S will have a body strong enough to meet BNVSAP crash test standards and feature high-speed warning alert, driver and co-driver SBR, driver airbag and rear parking sensors as standard. These will be the basic requirements when it comes to safety by the time the launch will take place.

As for the engine options, Maruti Suzuki may offer an upgraded, BS-VI compliant version of the 0.8- and 1.0-litre petrol units of the current Alto and Alto K10. Transmission choices may include 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual.
