Heavy localisation of parts allowed Kawasaki to slash the prices of the Ninja 300 by a considerable margin. India Kawasaki Motors launched the new locally made Ninja 300 at an ex-showroom Delhi price tag of INR 2.98 lakh last July. The motorcycle comes equipped with dual-channel ABS as standard and yet retails for INR 62,000 lower than the now-discontinued CKD model.

Apart from the competitive tag on the motorcycle, India Kawasaki Motors has also been able to offer the spares at lower prices. Anzen Automotive, the Mumbai dealership of Kawasaki posted the before and after prices for the Ninja 300’s spare parts. The localised parts are available for a much lower price tag than before. The clutch cable, for instance, is now available for INR 250 vs INR 1,860. The front and the rear brake pads, which were sold at INR 2,790 each, are now available for INR 780 each. Introduced in July last year, the locally assembled Kawasaki Ninja 300 is available in two colours - Lime Green/Ebony and Candy Plasma Blue - and graphics. India Kawasaki Motors continues to import the engine and chassis from Thailand, while parts like body panels, alloy wheels and tires are localised. MRF tyres have replaced the IRC rubber that came on the CKD motorcycle.

The engine on the Ninja 300 is a 296 cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin unit that delivers 39 PS of maximum power at 11,000 rpm and 27 Nm of peak torque at 10,000 rpm. The engine sends the power to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox, and a slipper clutch comes as standard.

The Kawasaki Ninja 300 rivals the KTM RC 390 and the TVS Apache RR 310. The locally assembled Kawasaki Ninja 300 was the most affordable twin-cylinder motorcycle in India until Royal Enfield introduced the Interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650 in November 2018. Although the Royal Enfield 650 Twins belong to a different segment, the competitive pricing puts the 650 cc thumpers against the Japanese 300.
