Hyundai is working on a new global entry-level SUV codenamed 'QXi' that will celebrate its market premiere in India in April 2019. Based on the latest spy images, IAB’s rendering artist Shoeb Kalania has worked on a fresh rendering of this new sub-compact SUV.

The Hyundai QXi will feature the company's latest design language and have a Hyundai Creta-inspired profile.

Reports say that Hyundai will name the QXi 'Styx', which space nerds would know is actually the name of Pluto planet's smallest moon. The entry-level SUV will have club modern design elements such as a prominent Cascading grille and two-tier headlamps, features already seen on the Hyundai Kona and Hyundai Santa Fe, with a Hyundai Creta-style traditional profile that is all about the straight lines. Emphasising the car's ruggedness will be all-around body cladding and faux skid plates.

The Hyundai Styx will be available with a range of petrol and diesel engines. The lower trims could be sold with the Grand i10 and Elite i20's 1.2-litre Kappa engine upgraded to meet BSVI emission norms. The higher variants will reportedly feature a 1.0-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine that outputs a maximum power of 120 PS and a peak torque of 171 Nm in the i30. The diesel variant is expected to feature a new 1.5-litre diesel engine that would offer 116 PS and 250 Nm of torque. In India, one can expect an AMT option with the Kappa engine, as a first for a Hyundai SUV.

Thanks to the evolution of Hyundai's design language, the production-spec QXi won't look too close to the Carlino concept from Auto Expo 2016.

The Hyundai QXi (Styx) was previewed by the Hyundai Carlino concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. The production model, however, won't look too similar to the concept, as the company's design language has evolved significantly since then.
