According to a report on Autocar India, the Hyundai Verna facelift will employ all-new 1.5-liter engines adhering to BS6 emission norms. Though the new generation Verna was launched just last year (August 2017), the company has already started the facelift program which is reportedly slated for a launch in the second half of 2020.
The 1.6-liter CRDi unit will be replaced with an all-new 1.5-liter unit adhering to BS6 emission norms (which comes into effect on April 1, 2020). The report states the new engine will witness improvements to refinement and fuel efficiency but will be down on power and torque. Expect power to go down from 128 hp to 115 hp and torque to decrease from 260 Nm to 250 Nm.
Regarding the new 1.5-liter petrol, Hyundai is likely to enable it to work in conjunction with a 48V hybrid system (for emission norms for 2023 and beyond). These new engines are likely to be seen first in the production Kia SP Concept SUV (Kia Trazor/Kia Tusker) which launches in H1 2019, adhering to BS6 emission standards.
Visually, the Verna facelift will look like an all-new car, sources told the publication. Designers will lend the sedan new bumpers, grille and extensive sheet metal changes, including the possibility of a new bootlid. Changes inside will include new instrumentation and an all-new infotainment system with advanced telematics.

It is safe to assume that the next generation Hyundai Creta, which also uses the 1.6-liter VTVT petrol and CRDi diesel engines as the Verna, would also be a beneficiary of the new engines. It is also to be noted that Hyundai will introduce its 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine on the QXi sub-4 meter SUV next year which is another BS6 compliant unit the carmaker can use on other products.
